Colin Cranfield is a Web and eLearning Developer from the West Midlands with over twenty years’ experience building web solutions for the public and private sector. Since becoming a developer in the early 2000s, he has worked on a number websites for organisations such as Black Country Connexions and PFA Scotland, and in 2005 developed the Simplylearn Learning Management System (LMS) and SCORM Authoring Tool, which was used by clients such as BT, Odeon Cinemas and PIPA Pharmacovigilance. As Technical Director at Simplylearn, he helped build courses, and was responsible for providing technical support, as well as overseeing the ongoing development of Simplylearn, ensuring that all clients’ needs were met. His philosophy being, whatever features were available for one client, had to be available for all.
Over the years, Colin has worked as a freelancer, as well as for Newfangled Media, designing and implementing creative solutions for both eLearning and the web, either working alone or collaboratively alongside designers and content specialists. Some examples of his work include; content management systems, SCORM compliant courses, assessment tools, dynamic PDF creation from online data, shopping carts, jQuery plugins, database design, and websites that not only work seamlessly across multiple devices, but also conform to W3C Web Accessibility guidelines.
Understanding that skills are transferrable, and can be adapted across multiple disciplines, Colin is adept at identifying and authoring solutions from scratch, as well as customising existing code, to extend functionality within third-party systems, such as Articulate 360, using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON, XML, ASP.Net and SQL, because he knows people shouldn’t have to put up with software that doesn’t do what they want it to.
Currently, he works for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where he oversees the Trust's website, Primary Care Network, and staff intranet using Wordpress and EasySite content management systems.
Colin has an MA in Twentieth Century Writing and is currently writing a novel. He also plays piano and guitar, and has written and recorded over thirty songs.
